As Bereavement Training International approaches its first anniversary, we have been looking back at some of the achievements of our first year. While nobody could have predicted the challenges we would all face in 2020, it has been a privilege to continue to provide specialist training and consultancy services to professionals from across the UK and beyond. We have delivered bespoke training to professionals working in NHS Trusts, Children’s Hospices and various charities, including, The Twins Trust, The Lullaby Trust and TinyLife Charity. Since June, all our training has been delivered virtually, allowing us to reach out to so many people in a way that makes the training both accessible and easy to fit into busy schedules.
Providing high-quality support and care for families following a pregnancy loss or the death of a baby or child is an important element of the role of professionals. To help ensure that all families receive the best possible care it is essential that staff have access to good quality training.
In partnership with Abigail’s Footsteps charity We have been delivering fully funded two hour baby loss virtual training sessions on a weekly basis since June. We are so grateful to this amazing charity and have been overwhelmed by the demand for this training and the fantastic feedback we have received.
More recently we have formed a partnership with The Lily Mae Foundation, providing fully funded baby loss training sessions for professionals in the West Midlands.
In March, just before lockdown, we delivered a pilot training session designed for counsellors working with parents following a pregnancy loss or death of a baby. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Petals charity to design and deliver this specialist training and are looking forward to delivering our first virtual session in November.
Earlier this year, our founder and principal, Paula Abramson was delighted to be invited to become an Ambassador for Abigail’s Footsteps charity. She has also been asked to become a specialist advisor for the neonatal charity, The Kit Tarka Foundation. Paula continues to be an active member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Baby Loss and a member of the advisory panel for the Pan London Lead Nurse for Neonatal Palliative Care role.
Paula has guest presented at various events including the Children’s Funeral Charity Annual Conference, the National Bereavement Alliance webinar, the London Neonatal Network Study Day, and in November, Paula has been invited to talk at the Institute of Health Visitors Neonatal Ambassador training session.
Paula has also co-authored a chapter in the ‘Neonatal Palliative Care for Nurses’ textbook and has had two articles published in the British Journal of Midwifery.
Our training is designed for all professionals who provide care for parents when a baby or child dies, including midwives and student midwives, obstetricians, neonatal, paediatric and gynaecology staff, sonographers, GPs and other primary care providers, health visitors, counsellors and chaplains.
Our professional facilitators, with many years of experience, can provide our bespoke bereavement training to you and your staff at your place of work or deliver the training online.
We are looking forward to working with our existing and new clients in the coming year.
